Owners, Dana Carpenter and Tammy Hamby, have been the best of friends for the past thirty-five years. Their husbands, Jeff and Mark, are best friends as well and they all enjoy traveling together as couples. Their families have intertwined throughout these thirty-five years and the two consider themselves sisters, friends and now business partners! Over the years, Dana and Tammy coined the loving nickname “Gardenia” for each other which is the reason for the beautiful gardenia in Island Bridal’s logo.
Their dream for IBB started in the early 2010’s when they each finally bought property on Saint Simons Island after visiting the area for several decades. They saw that this area had not had a bridal store for several years and began to dream of one day opening such a store. In 2016, shortly after Dana’s daughter-in-law and IBB’s manager, Lexi Carpenter, became engaged to her son, the desperate need for bridal retail was highlighted to the two entrepreneurs even more. Considering their drive and passion to do business in their beloved Saint Simons Island, Island Bridal Boutique became a reality shortly after Lexi and Cohen’s marriage in March of 2017.
Dana and Tammy are so excited to bring their vast skill sets to the brides of the Southeast and are even more excited to be a part of Saint Simons Island’s iconic community of small yet successful businesses. Dana and Tammy will do all they can with the help of integrity and love, to see every bride who comes to Island Bridal Boutique walk out with the dress of their dreams and a smile on their face.
Dana Carpenter is the business woman we all aspire to be. Just like Tammy, she grew up in Perry, Georgia where she originally became a Radiology Technician (Medical Center of Central Georgia). Shortly after, she put her business skills to work and eventually became a regional manager of several radiology centers across the Southeast and did so very successfully for thirty years. Recently retired, Dana has joined forces with her best friend, Tammy, to make Island Bridal Boutique transform from a dream to a reality. She brings a wealth of knowledge of business management and sustainability to Island Bridal that is unprecedented.
Dana, when not busy keeping Island Bridal running smoothly, loves spending time with her husband of thirty years, Jeff. The two have a son, Cohen, and can always be found in Saint Simons riding bikes, on the beach, or enjoying good, local music. In addition to her many projects, Dana is also an incredibly successful Woodmen of the World representative and loves to help find families the peace they deserve. We are excited to see how Dana’s talent and professionalism pushes Island Bridal to a long and lasting success!
Tammy Hamby has been a long-time resident of Perry, Georgia just a few hours north of Saint Simons Island. However, she is excited to finally call SSI her home away from home. As a graduate of Georgia College with a B.A. in marketing, she has come to acquire a well-rounded career from working with Congressman Richard Ray in the 1990’s to becoming a mortgage broker to managing several companies, including her loving husband’s Chevy dealership (Hamby Automotive). Tammy’s entrepreneurial drive gives her the ability to bring success to any business and project. For years, she has been involved in the bridal industry, including bridal retail. Her love for all things bridal and marketing gives Island Bridal Boutique just the right amount of experience and success that it needs.
Along with her vast career, Tammy enjoys traveling with her husband, Mark, and playing on the beach with their sweet seven-year-old daughter, Mackenzie. When she is not diligently working for Island Bridal Boutique, you can easily find her in a good book or baking delicious cakes and pastries. IBB would not be what it is without Tammy and we can’t wait to watch her bring years of success to the business!
Lexi Carpenter is a native of Saint Simons Island and her family can trace their roots back to this area for several generations. She has a B.S. in public and business management (College of Coastal Georgia) and completed several internships dealing with local non-profits, private businesses and state organizations concerning their program development. Working with several local businesses in our area, Lexi has brought her skills of strategic planning to help ensure measurable success for years to come. Her recent nuptials to Dana’s wonderful son, Cohen, has given her even more of an insight into the needs of local brides and brings a fresh, young perspective that Island Bridal will need to help make any bride, young or old, feel special and beautiful.
In addition to her business skills, Lexi has also been a professional dancer for the past twenty years and a ballet teacher for over seven years and still considers dance to be an enormous passion. The discipline learned in the world of ballet has taught her how to work hard and bring a thorough commitment to anything she invests in. When she is not at Island Bridal Boutique helping make brides’ dreams come true, she is either dancing, painting, or outdoors with her husband and their two German shepherds, Buck and Wren. We are so excited to have Lexi join the Island Bridal Boutique team!
